Summary of Today’s Activities:

I start off my day with planning and tutoring. Since I'm in the midst of volleyball season, planning outside of school becomes impossible with road games/home games and practices. And being that I have taught these classes before and my unit planner helps keep me organized, planning is not as stressful as it used to be. In the midst of my planning, a student who was absent from my AP Statistics class on Friday comes in to see what she missed. We ended up going over the whole lesson so she wouldn't be behind for the next class period on Wednesday.
Upper PE - (5th, long period)
We are still in our physical fitness unit, so the first 30 minutes of class is dedicated to exercises that target each major muscle group. Most of the students in my class are already athletes, so I try to throw in more stretching during their routine since they are already active outside of class. Once their workout is over, we play a game of Boccer. During the long period days, each class period is 1.5 hours; so I have learned to break up the physical fitness unit with games, otherwise the students do not want to participate in PE!
Middle PE - (7th)
Middle School PE is similarly designed like upper school PE since both are participating in the physical fitness unit. The only difference is, middle school PE only meets for an hour every day and I change up their game/activity depending on the class I have. Today, the middle school class stays active in their fitness routine for about 40 minutes and the other 20 minutes I let them play a game called "Everyone Is It" because it requires total class participation and a lot of running.

Reflection about Today’s Activities:

Physical fitness units are very difficult to get the student excited about. Most students who sign up for PE are there to have fun while being physically active, so the challenge in lesson planning becomes - making physical fitness fun. I have found more success in designing half of the class around a structured routine or instructions from me and the other half is letting them be "free" in an invigorating game of some sort. After all, the goal is to lead the students to a healthy lifestyle; if they have fun doing it, they are more likely to stick with it. Today was actually a good day, no issues other than the air conditioning going out and having to play in a very hot gym.
